In the beginning there was just me and an idea - to cycle across the Nullarbor for charity.
Ideas grew as I researched the possibility. I was challenged by the fact that my holidays coincided with winter in Australia.
Could I really be ready to go - 4 months from now?
The list of endless options.
I have 35 days holidays and need to be in Laos by the 1st August 2011. Accessing a bike is not the problem, I have 3 staring at me now. The challenge was deciding which bike. The tourer - with the panniers - slower but solo. The road bike - faster - no panniers, would need a support vehicle. The full suspension mountain bike - not a real option - too slow.
I definitely have a charity in mind but I need to get my own plans further down the track first.
I have contacted a few car hire companies, and at this point I don't have an offer of a super cheap 35 day car rental.
Solo with panniers is looking like my best option - however being in the tent in mid winter across the Nullarbor might be just so cold at night. How am I going to carry enough food supplies, water for 2 days, bike tools for the unexpected etc???
My first choice I think would be the road bike, faster, smooth - possibly able to cover 200km at day. Sleeping arrangements. I guess I need a support vehicle that is in fact a camper van!!! Ah - now there's an idea worth pursuing.
I have read many other blogs - thanks for lots of valuable information.
I have generally prepared my daily cycling distances. My schedule has me leaving Perth on Monday 20th June 2012.
